Cub Shrub
To explore examples of designs created for children, I explored a store in Columbus, OH called Cub Shrub. The store carries a variety of kid's toys, clothes and decor. I explored the store and their different trinkets to better understand what activities are currently on the market for children and specific styles. This is relevant to my capstone, as it allows me to gain insight to current items on the market for children. I wanted to explore what materials and imagery are available to kids. To gain more insight to the store, I included a quote from the cub shrub website, cited below.
"Cub Shrub is a vibrant and joyful space where childhood magic comes to life. For over a decade, we’ve filled our shop with playful, beautifully made things that spark imagination and make everyday moments feel like something worth celebrating. Whether you're picking out a perfect gift or just stopping in for a little wonder, we hope you leave smiling (cub shrub, 2025)."

The store's statement says its merchandise is curated to spark imagination and wonder. There was a variety of materiality within the store, focusing on fabrics, plastic toys, and paper books. I was also really curious about the different styles of imagery that were sourced. There were lots of bright colors and imagery depicting cartoon food and animals. This seemed relevant to my capstone project because I wanted to explore the designs that are marketed towards parents and children, because they are my main stakeholders. I wanted to note the colors, materials, and imagery I noticed while exploring this shop. I loved the store and was intrigued by how much variety was available. I was really impressed by the creative use of material, specifically the use of soft fabric toys and decorations.
