Dublin celebrates corn sculpture's 25th anniversary
The iconic artwork was installed in central Ohio in 1994. It features 109 human-sized ears of corn standing upright in row patterns in a field, a symbol of the community's agricultural history. (Associated Press)
The Dublin corn is a local story that shows a public installation piece that has been around for many years. 25 years is a long time for a piece to be standing in the hearts and minds of the community. As the video mentions, not everyone was happy when the corn was first placed, yet with time people began to develop a sense of pride around it.

Hearing from the artist was very interesting and shed light on how he went about the process of creating a long-term piece for a community he was a part of. Not only did he strive to create an air of whimsy but also created a monolithic air to pay respects to the past lifestyle. These are interesting aspects to consider while working on my own capstone project.
A talk by the artist, Columbus sculptor Malcolm Cochran, is among planned activities. The event also will include print-making with corn and osage oranges, corn hole, a corn maze, larger-than-life board games, a selfie station and yoga classes.
Food trucks plan corn-inspired menu items. Kettle corn and popcorn also will be sold. (Associated Press)
In the end, it was inspiring to see how the community embraced the iconic Dublin Corn sculptures through a creative and heartfelt celebration filled with corn-themed activities and foods.
