Imagining the Back Seat as a Wellness Pod

Imagining the Back Seat as a Wellness Pod
Sketch to vizcom early design conjecture

Throughout my research I noticed a theme of wellness spaces being pod like or encapsulating. From primary interviews at wellness locations to existing spaces and furniture that I read about up to this point- there is a loose vision in my head of the back seat being transformed into a wellness pod. What would it be like to have spa level relaxation in your car?

At one of the locations I went to I asked the woman working there how she might see this impractical form of relaxation in transportation and told her it could be as wild as she could think of... Her response? Maybe individual hot tubs with the little salt rocks all around the edge on buses. She got a laugh thinking about how to incorporate the Float Pod Wellness into transportation and I wonder if she continued dreaming about outlandish ways it could show up.

I spent a good portion of my time in the facility wondering how it could be turned into a mobile spa for cars. In my daydreaming I thought of seats that are like water beds, float bubbles that you somehow sit inside of a water filled bubble while driving, and even a full water bubble car! After the experiencing a meditation float pod, I thought about what it would be like if the pod and seats were combined or if the floor boards had foot baths.

Honda concept car x Float Pod

From the idea of isolated relaxation pods, I looked up a Honda concept car to see what the brand dreams of aesthetically. From there I brought in an image of a float pod and started thinking of ways to merge geometries. In this early stage, I leaned into the conceptual side of not needing it to necessarily be real and wanted to explore sketching conceptual spaces.
