IMAX Back Seat

IMAX Back Seat
Sketch enhanced with Viscom

When thinking about the way screens are a major part of our lives and the immersion we can get from screens, I thought about bringing the idea of a IMAX super screen into the car environment.

First sketch of IMAX on the Go

I wanted to capture the curved screen because it mimicked the way the dome theaters surround you as well as containing the experience to make it feel more like a divided space.

In my daydreaming, this back seat IMAX would be an isolated experience in which the sound is tied to the back seats and optimized only for them, leaving the front of the car to its own devices and focus space.

Two different screen placements

I sketched an alternative screen placement due to over thinking about logistics. That said, there is an interesting car overseas that won a Red Dot Award for taking away the back glass and replacing it with a camera system. Hypothetically, if Honda also shifted to a hybrid style or camera based rear view system, the screen could theoretically even extend lower!

How far could a back seat IMAX theater go? What about full immersion using things like scent diffusers and tactile input?
