Pocket Recycling Parks
With focusing on the future of recycling, the articles that I read influenced my idea of Pocket Recycling Parks. Similarly to a regular pocket park, which is green space in a smaller urban area, it provides bins to dispose of plastic waste that people aren't quite sure how to recycle- especially on the go. Providing the resources communities would need to successfully sort recyclables, so that they can end up in the appropriate treatment/processing stream and out of our landfills.
Columbus' rezoning will affect how neighborhoods interact while working towards their goal of supporting the character of place and creating a sense of belonging. Putting an extra greenspace could contribute to that sense of community as well as keeping it clean. Part of Koisor's article and the researchers motivation to figuring out how to recycle plastic film is due to the over abundance and there not being a current collection solution.
Some points that might need further consideration would be:
- How would the design or the signage of the container ensure that only that specific material is disposed in it's assigned one?
- How would the collections take place and are there infrastructures that will be in place to handle the additional load?
