Re:Matched (Business Conjecture)
Re:Matched is an online system that connects businesses to maker spaces, recycling facilities, and local talent. Instead of throwing excess products away, businesses can now “match” to find the partners who need the specific material they have. This creates opportunities for artists to access free or low-cost resources for their work, fosters contracts and collaborations, and supports recycling facilities. By giving discarded materials a second life, Re:Matched promotes creativity, sustainability, and circular economy practices.

This business model is inspired by our capitalistic society. According to business.com and NPR, it is evident that without monetary incentives, businesses will not recycle or reuse when it is simply cheaper and more convenient to buy new ones (Hendricks, 2024) and (Sullivan, 2020). Hopefully, Re:Matched will help businesses close the loop and give back to their communities. They need a system that supports recycling and reuse.
Some possible issues to work out:
- How can we ensure material quality?
- What if no one wants to work with a specific material?
- What incentives can we give people to join? Tax breaks? Marketing value? Reduced fees?
- How will we verify the users?
- Who will handle storage and transportation?
