Sprouting Tomorrow
Sprouting Tomorrow is an educational box subscription geared towards kids of different ages with activities on reducing, reusing, and recycling. Hoping to spread educational awareness on what can be recycled and practices that could carry on as they grow into adulthood. There would be little wooden toys, engaging puzzles, and crafts to be fun, but also teach. Some of the crafts would incorporate picking up litter to be repurposed like using bottle caps as car wheels or the bottle as a bug's body.
From the readings, an artist collects plastic bottles as her main material in her pieces (Anastasi, 2020). While another uses litter to create beads (Carson, 2024), those resourceful practices made me wonder how to spread that idea and practice from an early age.
Some points that might need further consideration would be:
- Would the subscription model be the best method- what about library kits?
- Is producing new items, geared towards circularity, and with the intent of education the way to go when thinking about materiality and carbon footprint? Maybe a community "build a box" night where instead of new products being shipped to you there could be a swap shop type event to learn with little ones.
