Sweet Saver (Design Conjecture)
For Gen Z, ‘Little Treats’ Are Worth Going Over Budget, by Kailyn Rhone (2025), explains how indulging in “treat culture” has become a trend among. Gen Z loves to indulge in sweets, coffees, and more as a way of rewarding themselves or practicing self-care. However, these small indulgences can add up to hundreds of dollars annually. “Sweet Saver” by Huntington is meant to shift treat culture and encourage Gen Z to treat themselves by supporting their goals. When Gen Z feels the desire to reward themselves with treats, they can instead reward themselves by contributing to savings accounts and earn points that can be used towards actual sweet treats. When going on the app, users are prompted with a “treat yourself” button that takes them to a savings page. Users can add different savings categories and add small (or large) amounts to their savings whenever they want the instant gratification of a sweet treat. Every dollar that is saved is a point, and when users reach a hundred points, they receive rewards for treats, such as a free ice cream, coffee, or something else.
When furthering this concept, it is important to consider how this app can be integrated into Huntington’s existing app or if it is a new app. I also need to consider whether the points and rewards system is actually plausible.
