Your Trash Kills

Your Trash Kills
Mockup of printed posters on campground signage.

This concept explores similar strategies used by the Guerilla Girls to spread awareness for the lack of women and minority artists represented by major art museums as discussed in How the Guerilla Girls Used Art to Stage a Revolution. Provocative, accusatory language, eye-catching colors, and images that blatantly reveal the impact plastic pollution has on wildlife are utilized to achieve a similar goal: shock and inform. It is also a prevention strategy that aims to make people think twice about littering.

This idea could also be implemented as a pamphlet or brochure with information about littering impacts and wildlife protection. I can also imagine small postcards and stickers being made that could be placed in public locations, similar to how the Guerilla Girls dispersed their posters all over NYC.

This proposed poster campaign is meant to be memorable and thought provoking to promote changes in littering behavior. However, this approach might be too aggressive for the public park setting, and it may come off as insensitive or even offensive to some. This poses the risk of sending the wrong message to park visitors about wildlife protection. It also might shift the focus away from the issue of littering and towards debate about how the issue is being addressed.
