Arts and Lifestyle Conjecture: Projection Pals

Projection Pals is a digital platform that allows inpatient individuals a place to personalize their space and engage with others creatively during their stay. Within the Projection Pals app, individuals will be able to create art or write messages that can be projected within their hospital room or sent to others. Others, including friends, family, and other patients, will also be able to view and create art or messages to be sent to the patient. Research has shown that engaging in art with others can reduce loneliness and isolation, while improving social support. (Rodriguez, 2023) While visiting loved ones in the hospital during their stay can be difficult, Projection Pals offers patients and others opportunities to share moments of thoughtfulness and connection. With it being a digital platform, it opens up these moments of sharing to those that traditionally would not be able to engage with the patient, like family that is out of the state or country. With the projections, they can be mapped onto the ceiling and walls of the hospital room, so that the art can be viewed from any angle, enveloping the room in a beautiful array of work. Projection Pals could also include fun prompts to engage friendly competition between individuals.
