Design Conjecture: Bridge Between Generations - BridgeGap
BridgeGap invites children and grandparents to connect through storytelling and drawing. Inspired by the idea of Skribbl, the system uses a digital screen with a paper-like texture to create a simple shared activity during a car ride. It is designed especially for families whose relationships may be affected by physical distance or a generational gap.

Imagine a Saturday morning on the way to a soccer game. A child settles into the back seat and taps “Grandma (Atlanta)” on BridgeGap. Grandma answers from home, and they choose a drawing game. A simple prompt appears, such as “Draw something you saw today.” As the child draws, Grandma tries to guess what it is. The drawing becomes a starting point for conversation, allowing them to share small moments from their lives. After the game, BridgeGap can suggest a follow-up story, such as “Tell a story about a pet you had when you were their age.” Over time, these repeated activities can create a routine.
The system also allows parents to join whenever they want, while grandparents can take the lead in facilitating the activity. For families separated by distance, BridgeGap creates a regular opportunity to spend time together. For families separated by a generational gap, shared stories and activities can create something they have in common.
