Survey

I wanted to create a survey to gain a surface-level understanding of how people feel about healthcare emergencies and how prepared they feel to help in case of an emergency. I created a survey with 11 simple questions.

Recruitment

Finding people who live in rural communities was challenging because I did not have any direct connections to people in these areas to share my survey with. I reached out to another college student who grew up in Springboro, Ohio, and asked if she would be willing to complete the survey and share it with people in her neighborhood. As a result, my focus group consisted of people who live on her cul-de-sac in a neighborhood in Springboro. There are approximately 18 people living on the street, resulting in five survey responses.

Reflection

Despite the limited number of responses, this survey gave me an initial understanding of how people may differ in their preparedness and experience with healthcare emergencies. The results helped guide my other primary research interviews by giving me a better sense of what questions to ask and what areas to explore further. In particular, I was able to learn more about the tools people have access to in their homes, their level of confidence in using them, and how they have handled or would respond to a healthcare emergency.
