Children can learn in many different ways, and learning does not always have to happen by sitting in a classroom or reading information. Interactive experiences can give children the opportunity to learn by exploring, playing, and being part of what is happening around them. The Goizueta Children’s Experience is an example of how learning and play can be brought together in one space. The experience allows children to explore different activities and learn about Atlanta’s history and culture in a more hands-on way (Roto, 2025).

Our Great Big City (Roto, 2025).
Described as a “game-changer” by Atlanta History Center President & CEO Sheffield Hale, “The Goizueta Children’s Experience” opened in the museum in January 2025. Spread across 5,000 square feet, the bilingual immersive exhibition features several hands-on interactive experiences to learn about Atlanta’s history (Roto, 2025).
Encourages curiosity, creativity, and exploration of a larger-than-life playground where dreams of Atlanta can take flight (Roto, 2025).
Exhibit highlights include local landmarks like a Mini Fox Theatre, where kids can imitate a night at the historic venue; The Varsity’s Silly Scent Station, which is designed to mimic Atlanta’s legendary drive-in restaurant experience in the 1930s; and Tiny Toddler Town, which is inspired by Atlanta’s lively neighborhoods. Custom characters “Click” and “Chime” were also developed for the space to serve as friendly guides and marketable mascots (Roto, 2025).

Reflection

I find it very creative how the Goizueta Children’s Experience made learning more fun and interactive for children. Instead of children just looking at information or reading about it, they actually get to be part of the experience by playing, exploring, and interacting with different things.

I really like this idea because I think children learn better when they are actually doing something and having fun at the same time. It also made me realize that learning doesn’t always have to feel like school or something educational. It can be something fun that makes children curious and want to learn more. I also think being part of the experience can make it more memorable than just watching or reading something.
