Mud Hens Continue Trend of Drone Shows

Toledo Mud Hens Drone Show - Sep. 6, 2026

Minor league baseball team, Toledo Mud Hens, as well as others have begun switching over to drone light shows as opposed to firework shows. Is this switch better or worse for our environment as well as animals?

"I'm definitely becoming a drone show person... I love the loud entertainment (fireworks), but the drones with music and technical designs are so much cooler" (Visitor 2026).

Review

Entertainment has always been a pinnacle of baseball games and other sports events; however, it can be difficult to work with a city or town to ensure that the entertainment is safe and fully legal. Recently, the entertainment has pivoted from fireworks and pyrotechnics to safer alternatives like drone shows. Firework shows require extensive insurance as well as lots of planning to ensure that the shows are safe and go to plan. There are also many people and children who can be very sensitive to these loud shows causing attendees to leave. By implementing these new entertainment shows, many more people are able to watch and enjoy this beautiful spectacle of moving lights.

This is the Toledo Mud Hens second official drone show, and it took place around 1.5 hours after the 9th inning had ended. Almost 1/2 of the entire stadiums crowd stayed in their seats and waited for this show adults and children alike. After speaking with visitors at the event, it was common to hear how much everyone enjoyed the drone show and how it was a very peaceful end to their night.

"...it's so much calmer driving home now. I didn't realise how affected I was by the loud firework shows" (Visitor 2026).
