Making Art Accessible from Anywhere
Museums are usually places that people have to physically visit to experience the artwork and collections they have. But with technology, museums can now give people access to some of these experiences without actually having to be there. That is what the Louvre is doing with its online collection. The Louvre allows people from anywhere to explore its collection online and learn more about different artworks, cultures, and history (Musée du Louvre, n.d.).
With the online Musée du Louvre Collections database, everyone can share in this journey of discovery and rediscovery. It contains over 500,000 works from the Musée du Louvre and the Musée National Eugène-Delacroix spanning a variety of places in France or abroad. Each entry includes the work’s current location, whether it be on display in the Musée du Louvre or the Musée Delacroix, exhibited in the gardens, on loan to other institutions, or held in a reserve collection. Updated on a daily basis, this database is the product of the continuous research and documentation work conducted by the specialists of the Établissement Public du Musée du Louvre (Musée du Louvre, n.d.).
The Louvre’s collections site offers several research tools: full-text search engine; advanced search form; features that filter search results according to date of creation, collection the work belongs to, where the work is located, category of work, artist/maker; themed albums; and an interactive map to find works on display in the museum (Musée du Louvre, n.d.).

Reflection
What I found really interesting about the Louvre’s online collection is how they made something that usually requires traveling to another country available to you online. Not everyone has the chance to go to Paris and visit the Louvre in person, so being able to explore the collection online gives more people the opportunity to experience it.
I also like how they aren't trying to replace the actual museum experience, but instead giving people another way to explore what the museum has to offer. It made me realize how a physical experience can be expanded into a digital one and reach a much bigger audience. I think it's an interesting way for the Louvre to connect with people from all around the world while still keeping the actual museum experience special.
