Marble Plastics X BounceCurl: Circular Economy
For my business theme, I decided to explore how Marble Plastics could create a closed-loop system similar to TerraCycle around the secondary waste stream. I know that curly-haired people have specific needs when it comes to detangling and defining their hair, so when we find a tool that works, we tend to stay loyal to it. My conjecture features a styling brush using Bounce Curl’s brush technology and a volumizing hair pick. I imagine Marble Plastics partnering with Bounce Curl on a take-back program where used brushes could be collected, reprocessed, and turned into new X2 products. Customers could receive a discount on their next brush when they return their old one, creating a loop instead of sending the brush into another waste stream.
There are practical challenges to this idea, Marble Plastics has traditionally makes items intended to last for years, so a take-back system would be very different from its current business model. The logistics of collecting brushes and partnering with a curly hair brand would also need to be tested. There's a disconnect between a manufacturing brand and a curly-hair focused brand.
