Memory Bank

Memory Bank
Conjecture: Business

After looking at different business articles, I found it interesting how companies create experiences that continue over time. The Louvre showed me how an experience can continue even after someone leaves a physical place, while American Girl and Nintendo showed me how people can continue interacting with an experience after the first purchase. This made me think about how family experiences could also continue after an activity or destination ends, instead of just becoming a moment that happened (American Girl, n.d.; Nintendo, n.d.; Musée du Louvre, n.d.).

Another part that influenced this idea came from my survey. A lot of the participants mentioned that talking about their day is one of the things that creates conversation during car rides. This made me think about how the car could encourage those conversations and also give families a way to bring them back in the future.

The Memory Bank allows family members to write down a moment from their day that was funny, interesting, a first-time experience, an adventure, or something they want to remember, and save it inside the car. During a future ride, they can turn the dial to randomly, rediscover a past memory and talk about it together. This creates a cycle of talk, write, save, rediscover, and talk again, giving families more opportunities to continue conversations, remember experiences together, and bring back memories they may have forgotten about.

There are also some complications to consider. Families may forget to add memories or lose interest in using the Memory Bank over time. Another consideration is making the process simple enough that everyone in the family, especially younger children, can easily participate.
