One Screen, Different Experiences
Technology is becoming more personalized and can give people different information based on what they need. Usually, when multiple people are looking at the same screen, everyone sees the same thing. But what if people could look at the exact same screen and each person sees something completely different that is only meant for them? That is what Delta did with their Parallel Reality technology. Delta uses this technology to give passengers personalized information while they are all looking at the same digital display (Brownlow, 2026).
Delta Airlines partnered with Californian start-up Misapplied Sciences with the aim of “personalising the airport experience.” The partnership brought PARALLEL REALITY™ technology to Detroit Metropolitan Airport and materialized as a large flight information display screen which multiple customers can look to and only see their personalized flight information shining back (Brownlow, 2026).
The screen utilizes multi-view pixel technology to project millions of colored lights to numerous viewing zones. This enables the screen to be entirely tailored to each viewer’s journey. The experience is one that passengers can opt in to using either their boarding pass or facial recognition (if they have enrolled with digital ID) (Brownlow, 2026).
The screen has been active in the airport since July 2022 and welcomes each passenger by name, presents their flight departure time, gate number, how long it will take to get there, and even which direction to walk. The display continuously adjusts to your location enabling the screen to be effective even as you move. It can also work for up to 100 passengers simultaneously (Brownlow, 2026).
Reflection
Before looking at this article, I actually came across a TikTok that showed this technology, and I found it really interesting, so I decided to search more about it. What stood out to me the most is how one screen can show different information to multiple people at the same time. I honestly didn’t know this type of technology existed before seeing the TikTok. I think it is really interesting how people can look at the exact same screen but each person sees something different that is personalized to them.
I also like how the technology was created to make the experience easier for people instead of just adding technology for no reason. Each passenger can see the information that is important to them without having to search through everything else. It made me realize how technology can create a personalized experience for each person, even when multiple people are sharing the same screen and space.
