Recycled Material in Children's Toys

(Green Toys, n.d.)

Green Toys is an American company that specializes in 100% recycled plastic playthings.

Since day one, our mission has been to create toys that are safe, sustainable, and built for endless play—while doing right by the planet and future generations (Green Toys, n.d.).

Not only are the toys made of recycled material, but Green Toys also takes special care to ensure that the recycled plastic is safe for children.

We pioneered the use of recycled materials in toys, proving that high-quality, eco-friendly products could be both fun and responsible. Over the years, we've grown, and so has our commitment to sustainability. While we began manufacturing exclusively in the USA, today, we responsibly produce our toys in carefully selected facilities both domestically and abroad (Green Toys, n.d.).

However, our dedication to domestic manufacturing remains a cornerstone of our identity. We continue to invest in and prioritize American-based production, where we work with trusted partners who share our values of safety, sustainability, and quality (Green Toys, n.d.).

Our toys give recycled materials a second life—primarily made from post-consumer recycled milk jugs, with occasional additions of other safe, repurposed plastics. This process keeps waste out of landfills while significantly reducing our carbon footprint. The plastic is collected, cleaned, shredded into flakes, reprocessed into raw material, and combined with food-safe, mineral-based coloring. We rigorously test our products at every stage, from material sourcing to the finished toy, ensuring they meet or exceed safety standards (Green Toys, n.d.).

Green Toys products are not only colorful and functional, but also contain no BPA, phthalates, or PVC, and follow FDA standards for food contact materials. Anticipating any mess that the toy might encounter, their products are also dishwasher-safe. When working with recycled plastic, it is important to consider what ingredients, particularly chemicals, were used in the original products. These additions can impact certain aspects of your recycled product, such as safety, for example. Green Toys, catering to children, does an excellent job of taking these factors into account.
