TrackMyTrash
TrackMyTrash is a service that would allow a user to discover the path that their recycled material is taking.
This service would utilize reports from recycling plants, post-production companies, and innovators in recycled materials. All information would be compiled in an online database and app, allowing anyone to find out what their recycled material is going towards. This idea originated from research into new innovations in what is being done with recycled materials. Survey responses also indicated that a reason some would refrain from recycling is that it is a "flawed system," and people need to see "real results" as an incentive to practice recycling. This service would allow users to follow the progress that is being made utilizing their recycled material, giving an incentive to keep doing so while raising awareness about innovations in the industry.
Being a rapid design conjecture, this design could be improved. The glaring issue is that gathering and organizing the information, from a local recycling scale to a national innovation scale, would be a Herculean task. However, if done correctly, this database could serve as a tool not only to incentivise recycling, but also to spark ideas for innovations based on existing research across the country.
